Hematoma

So last night, Rankin and I drove to Ikea of Carson, CA. Talk about traffic. A 20 mile trip took nearly 50 minutes, with the 405 freeway stacked up 5-6 lanes both ways. But Ikea is worth it, and was significantly less crowded than previous visits. I purchased this beauty, as I currently have no (read: none, zip, nada) furniture in my bedroom. Even my bedframe failed to make the trip to L.A. I feel like a college student again, only with more debt!

So we finished in record time: approximately 20 minutes, both of us getting bookcases. Mine weighed more - 130 pounds in two boxes. Too bad I have two flights of stairs to my apartment with no elevator.

Speaking of those stairs, it really ruined my night when I dropped my end of the boxes (both together, 130 pounds remember) directly on my lower left shin while attempting to climb them backwards. According to Gigi and Jean Hawkins, the resulting tennis-ball sized knot is a hematoma and should be iced and elevated as much as possible. The initial pain was nauseating, now looking at my soon-to-be-purple leg is equally bad. This had better be the best bookcase ever.

I am looking forward to having my cable installed tomorrow between the hours of 9-12, going through my remaining boxes and organizing. Photos to come, as soon as I can find affordable film processing.

ikea is amazing. and worth a hematoma. my second one was from a giant kicking me as hard as he possibly could (possibly even harder) while we were swing dancing. i was not swing dancing with him, though. it still hurts, and it was over a year ago. good luck with that!
