TGIF!!

So it’s Friday…pretty much my favorite day of the week since I bask in the anticipation of good things almost as much as the things themselves. I somehow motivate myself to be earlier on Fridays just so I can leave earlier.

Today’s forecast: high of 65 (although it’s supposedly 68 right now). I’ve been sleeping with the windows open and a fan blowing directly into my room to offset the fact that I sleep under a down comforter every night regardless. I haven’t been as warm the last few nights. So when I arrived at work this morning, my Sarah had the heat on. When Lindsey arrived, she said it was cold. I just laughed.

I noticed as I fell asleep a few nights ago that my smoke detector is near the ceiling. Of my 15-foot ceiling. The same for the one in the living room and Melanie’s room as well. Since I am by no means a 5-star cook, sometimes my dishes…produce smoke. I fear two scenarios – either the batteries dying in one of the detectors in the middle of the night or a casserole gone awry. There is simply no way that I, much less my significantly shorter roommate, can reach any of them. My landlord, bless his heart, will not like hearing from either of us in the middle of the night to fulfill a tall ladder request, at least judging from his noticeable displeasure at my two calls last Saturday for cable-related questions.

Tomorrow, I will attend a picnic lunch with other PCCers and take Lynda Jackson’s chicken salad. Everyone will love me. Like they will have a choice!

i remember when Fridays used to be such good days. now its the day before i work my tail off!

there are no smoke detectors in my apartment. i realized this the first time i cooked, and there was a lot of smoke involved, and there was no alarm letting me know that i needed to open the window.

happy weekend to you! hope its great!

Ah, smoke alarms, my old nemeses. I distinctly recall the one in my parents' house, which, at the first whiff of burnt cooking, screamed and refused to be comforted no matter how it was fanned. Eating food raw or, barring that, starving were almost preferable.
Now we have a single smoke detector that as of yet, we have not set off. Unfortunately, it is backed up by a series of ceiling mounted sprinklers that I fear will one day unleash a deluge upon all of my worldly goods. The more things change, the more they stay the same...
