News of the Sad

I am so ashamed. But in the interest of confession and absolution, I will make known my transgression: I know the words to a Nick Lachey song. [sidenote: if you have no idea who he is, that's good. It's better for you not to know.]

There. My readership will plummet. My chances at ever holding an elected office are gone. Your estimation of me has taken a nose-dive.

I can explain!

The only reason I listen to KOST 103.5 is because

a) it’s the first non-Spanish language station I found the first week I was here

b) it has a Hollywood Roundup at 7.35.

Yes, I am totally addicted to the 3-minute blurbs, but they’re always way ahead of the curve…I have to wait at least a week to get the same info from my People magazine! Maybe I should be ashamed/confess/be absolved of reading that, but I won’t.

So, in order to hear said roundup, I must suffer through easy listening from the 80’s, 90’s and today, as well as an AWFUL joke of the day. [Although they have good guests…Lionel Richie and Weird Al in the last two weeks.] But part of that suffering is hearing Nick Lachey. Eeek. I apologize to the universe for my misstep! I apologize even more for knowing the correct pronunciation of his last name!

On a different note, WE NOW HAVE CABLE! At long last, Time Warner representatives did show up at our place on Saturday morning at 10.45. After a general assessment, Mario asked about the unit below, to which he would need access. We went downstairs together, I in my bathrobe and he in his…TWC uniform, and knocked on the door. No response. Another louder, more firm knock. Still nothing. I explained to him our 6-week wait. He shook his head. I called my landlord. Twice. I think he’ll raise our rent out of spite. Turns out that the she was home, just not answering the door, and that drilling two holes in the outside of the building directly into our unit was simpler than through our unhelpful neighbor’s ceiling. Done. In only 2 hours.

On a sadder note, Blue Cross has finally approved me. But at a rate 50% higher than originally quoted/is necessary. Maybe I’ll perform my own medical procedures and pocket the cash…

And on an even sadder note, it rained. WHAT? I was told it would be January before I’d see precipitation again. Therefore, I paid money to wash my car. On Wednesday. Well, Sunday as Melanie and I feasted at Baja Fresh, I noticed tiny droplets of water falling from the sky. I said ‘Melanie, look! Tiny droplets of water falling from the sky!’. As the black BMW parked outside the front window began to show dreadful spots all over the hood, I sulked. Only I, Jennifer, henceforth to be known as Rain Woman, could bring the curse to sunny L.A. out of season. For I, Rain Woman, had the nerve to pay for a carwash. Oh, the humanity!

HEMATOMA UPDATE: Not visible to the naked eye. Or the clothed eye, for that matter. What eyes can see through clothing but Superman's? Still firm and unnatural, but not preventing any particular piece of clothing from being worn. Annoying. Especially in light of my to-be-determined insurance status. Is this some sort of joke?

So as not to bum you out...I'll think of something positive. I hit 37,000 miles on my truck today. I bought it the beginning of March with 25,000 and it spent it's first three weeks in the shop after the aforementioned incident. Oh, the apartment looks better all the time. The TV, big bag of appearel/knick-knacks and last few boxes of just plain stuff are gone. Pictures are hung, lots of papers discarded. My life is getting simpler. It must look like Better Homes in a week when Melanie's family converges for her brother's wedding, but I am not worried.

Welcome Chris to the blogging world! He is my friend-in-law (married to Shelly for two-and-a-half months now!) and a fun person. Read his stuff!

That is all.

There is now a union between the two blogs. Who now has the strength to stand against the might of jenglass.blogspot.com and ncchrisd.blogspot.com? Together, we shall rule this... blogosphere. (A little Two Towers reference there for any LotR fans out there).
Great picture! I remember that day, as Shelly and I and the entire balance of the wedding party lost all semblance of hydration in the cruel late July sun. Including you, come to think of it. That was a Rehearsal no one is likely to soon forget!
